On Tuesday, October 23rd, DKC hosted its first High school tournament of the season. With 13 schools competing at Washington High School in KCK, we saw fierce competition take place in both policy and congress debate.

In policy debate we had three divisions. In novice, the duo of Dorian Polo and Adriana Mendoza from JC Harmon took first place team honors, with Dorian also claiming top speaker. Jamaiyah Amerison of University Academy (2nd) and Adriana Mendoza (3rd) followed close behind.

In junior varsity, the team of Wiley Sanders and Dakota Scott of Sumner Academy took home first place honors. Dakota also took home first place speaker, whereas their partner Wiley took second and their teammate Sidney Harris took third.

In varsity, the team of Chyler Backstrom and Anaia Johnson of Turner High School took home first place honors.  The duo from Sumner of Neymara Freeman and Jaleon Brown stole the show on the speaker end, with Neymara winning first place honors and Jaleon following in second. And first place team recipient Anaia Johnson claimed third place to round out an impressive tournament.

In student congress we had two houses. In Chamber A, Timothy McLaughlin of Sumner took first place honors. Lesly Sosa and Malcolm Williams followed suit with 2ndand 3rdconsecutively. In Chamber B Victoria Guerra claimed first place. Kate Besong of Center high school claimed second. And Jude Anderson of Lincoln Prep came in third.

In sweepstakes, Sumner Academy claimed 1stplace after a very strong tournament. Lincoln Prep took home the silver after claiming a bevy of awards. JC Harmon cracked the top three to round out the top schools at the tournament.
