Arrowhead Tournament Recap

On October 4th, DKC kicked off its first tournament of the season for middle school, at Arrowhead. With two rounds of policy debate offered across three divisions and seven houses of congress, there were a lot of speeches to be given. Over 200 students competed, leading to some exciting and hard-fought debate rounds

In student congress there were five houses for the novice division. In Chamber A, Madelyn Chavez of Rosedale middle school took first place honors. In Chamber B, Justin Jackson of Eisenhower took first place honors. In Chamber C, Hadiyah Bayan of AC Prep took home followed suit in first place. In Chamber D, DeShaun Washington of Center middle earned first place honors. And in Chamber E, Simon Sang of Arrowhead middle took home the gold.There were two houses on congress for varsity. In Chamber A, Sophia Herrera of Foreign Language Academy took home first place honors. And in Chamber B, Malachi Barton of Sumner middle took home first place.

There were three divisions of policy debate, with awards given for the top teams and speakers. In the novice division, Kierra Hill-Gleghorn of Sumner middle took home top speaker honors, while the top team was awarded to Patton Junior High team of Anneliese Elder and Julia Flynn. In junior varsity, Gabriel Bates of Foreign Langauge Academy was awarded as the top speaker, while the team of Ryan Hoback and Javier Melendez of Sumner middle was awarded top team honors. In Varsity, Freddie Graham of the Barstow School was awarded top speaker, while the team of Freddie Graham and Quinn Luce were from the Barstow School were awarded the top team.

The tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the Arrowhead team for hosting, the teacher and high school students who volunteered to judge, DKC staff, the coaches, and of course the debaters!
