Their tournament ended in a close loss to the eventual national champions.

The Urban Debate National Championship caps off the esteemed debate career of Chebet Buckner. It was Chebet’s second time representing Kansas City at the Urban Debate National Championship and her first time advancing to elimination debates. She will graduate in May and attend Hampton University next year.

Cheyenne Clopton will be a senior next year at Lincoln Prep. She has been winning awards with DKC since she was in 7th grade and her performance at this year’s national championship places her firmly on the national scene as one of the best young minds in urban debate. Her success at this tournament will serve as a model for other DKC students as she serves as a fellow at DKC’s summer debate camp.

The Urban Debate National Championship is routinely an excellent experience for students from KC and across the country, and this year was no exception.
