I’m a proud alum of Arrowhead Middle School and Sumner Academy, competing in DKC leagues since Middle School. I’m grateful to have coached and supported Middle School Debate for DKC while I was in High School.
DKC helped teach me that my voice matters. DKC additionally helped establish the confidence to address classrooms full of judges and fellow debaters, which has now become arenas with thousands.
After DKC, I proceeded to attend Howard University, a Historically Black College and University in Washington, D.C. where I became the inaugural HBCU Speech and Debate League national champion in Parliamentary Debate and Extemporaneous Speaking.
My advice to up and coming speakers is the skills you learn and use in debate can be utilized anywhere and everywhere. I know because I do it for a living now!
