December 7th-8th DKC hosted eight high schools at the UMKC Campus for the annual DKC City Championship tournament. With three divisions and a spot at urban debate nationals in Houston, TX on the line for varsity, over 50 students competed to be crowned the city champion.
In Novice, the team of Jessica Huynh and Wah Shee from Lincoln College Prep were crowned the city champions defeating the powerhouse maverick competitor Faizion Campbell from Cristo Rey in finals. At the JV level, Leoneol Ramos and Terrance Cowans of Sumner were crowned the champions while Gabe Trowbridge and Brenda Aguilera of Turner were the runner-ups. In the Varsity division, Neymara Freeman and Jaleon Brown of Sumner defeated the freshman team of William Udo and William Workcuff from University Academy. This victory solidifies two years in a row for the Sumner duo who will will represent DKC at the Urban Debate Nationals in April.
