Matheno Frazier-Bey Jr, Executive Director
Matheno Frazier-Bey is a graduate of DEBATE-Kansas City program and has worked with Baltimore Urban Debate League and the Bay Area Urban Debate League. Matheno debated in high school at Kansas City Central High School, in Missouri where he became a consecutive winner of City Championships two years in a row in 2007 and 2008. At the end of Matheno’s junior year he placed as the second place team at the JB Fuqua National Urban Debate Tournament. Matheno and his partner Aaron took the debate community by storm winning numerous trophies within the league, and regional TOC tournaments in Iowa, Nebraska and Oklahoma. In 2008, Matheno won the 4th place speaker award and the 6th place team award alongside Aaron for the year. But the accolades did not stop there. Matheno went on to compete at the inaugural Urban Debate National Championship in Chicago, earning honors as the 11th best speaker in the nation and earned a spot as a quarterfinalist. Upon graduation, Matheno went on to study at Towson university. A valued figure and mentor in the Baltimore urban debate and collegiate scene, Matheno has been an excellent ambassador for KC debate and continues to exhibit what makes our league great, having a hand in further progressing urban debate. Matheno served as a national volunteer for the US government under the AmeriCorps VISTA national program. He has worked with more than ten nonprofit and nongovernment organizations professionally, such as Strong City Baltimore, Art With A Heart, United Way, and Youth Empowerment Society.
