UMKC Debate – Public Education for Sale

On October 21st the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) debate team held a public debate entitled, “Public Education for Sale” that was part of the UMKC Division of Diversity Social Justice Series. DEBATE-Kansas City (DKC) was an event sponsor and one of the public debaters was Corey Fisher, a DKC graduate. Additionally, DKC senior Alex Trobough (Sumner) served as the judge. Nearly 100 members of the community and UMKC students attended the free public event held at UMKC’s Royall Hall. DKC’s sponsorship was supported by the Arthur N. Rupe Foundation and The National Speech and Debate Association.

The debate mimicked a policy format and featured two teams with two members each, and all four were members of the UMKC debate team. Antonia Scott and Corey Fisher affirmed that charter school funding should end, while Brennan Schwartz and Parker Mitchell argued that charter schools should remain a public school option. You can see the full debate right here. The debate actually starts about 27:00 mark and some of the early footage has a couple problems, but by the 1st Negative Constructive the video is fixed.
