Over 175 DEBATE-Kansas City students competed in the final DKC tournament of the season. The ACE middle school high school combined tournament is a one of a kind tournament bringing students from 6th grade to 12th grade together in one tournament experience. On the high school level students compete in a student congress focused on next year’s policy debate topic. Students debated bills and resolutions that explored how to reduce poverty in the United States. On the middle school level students had a choice of whether to compete in student congress or policy debate.
This was only the second middle school policy debate tournament in DKC history. “Our students proved they were up to the challenge of doing policy debate” said Isaac Allen Program Coordinator of DKC. “The middle school students did a great job” Concurred Sidney Brown senior at Central high school. “Some of these kids will do very well in high school” Ms. Brown continued.
The Nancy Buckley the coach of Lincoln Middle School summed the tournament and the year up best: “I’m just so proud of everyone we had a great year and tournament I can’t wait to see all these kids succeed in the years to come”.
